  1. Soak kadala(black chana/chickpea) overnight.
  2. In a pressure cooker add cleaned kadala ,turmeric powder,chilly powder,coriander powder,salt and water.
  3. cook well and keep aside.
  4. in a pan heat oil add curry leaves,chopped ginger,garlic and thinly sliced onion,stir well until it becomes light brown.
  5. add chopped tomato,cook in a high flame until puree comes out.
  6. add the cooked kadala, stir well. cover with a lid and cook for few more minutes
  7. season with mustard, curry leaves and chopped shallots.
  8. serve hot with puttu or chapati.
